The Hen Wallow Falls is a waterfall located in the Great Smoky Mountains on a trail off the Gabes Mountain Trail in Tennessee. It is 90 feet high and spreads up to 20 feet at the base, but it is only two feet wide. The best season to visit the falls is winter, as the water freezes, and the view is majestic.
Salamanders can be seen at the base of the Hen Wallow Falls often, and the pathway to the falls is through the hemlock and rhododendron forest; the hike to the waterfalls is a 4.4-mile roundtrip, and the hike is said to be of moderate difficulty; the access trail to the falls is the Gabes mountain which was once known as the Messer trail.
You can see black bears around the area, so be careful. The rocks around the waterfall are slippery, and hence, climbing it is dangerous. Many people have fallen and been seriously injured and even caused the death of many. Pets are not allowed in this area.
