The first day in the month of February started in Jharkhand with little rainfall, chirping sounds of birds, and people taking a sip of tea at the roadside stalls. Mostly, at this time, the situation is quite different because in Feb month, rainfall doesn’t occur in Jharkhand and it’s the month when winter says goodbye to us.
Well, the matter is not only about the weather, the most heated topic that people were discussing while taking a sip of tea at the tea stall was the arrest of the sitting Chief Minister of Jharkhand by the Enforcement Directorate. On the 31st of January night, the central agency wing, i.e., ED arrested Hemant Soren on the charges of corruption, land acquisition, and money laundering.
What Happened On The Night Of January 31st 2024?
Every media house was covering the incident in Ranchi, Jharkhand, and people around every corner of the state were willing to know what was going on in Jharkhand. The mini-busses full of legislatures were standing out of the Governor’s house, and the rush of media persons, and heavy police force dragged everyone’s attention.
Later on, the vehicle of the sitting CM of Jharkhand, i.e., Hemant Soren entered in Governor’s house and he handed his resignation letter to the Governor of Jharkhand. Since, then the bubbles of gossip started and most legislatures who were sitting on the bus to go for a parade in front of the Governor got a setback, as they didn’t get the time. However, during the resignation process, five legislatures were present with Hemant Soren and after resigning, the ED team took him to their office and thereafter started the legal formalities.
What Action Will Hemant Soren Take Against ED?
Former CM of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren filed an FIR against ED based on the SC/ST act and illegal entry of the team into his Delhi house. Moreover, there is a high possibility of a Defamation case as he said, that the central team is trying to dilute his name. Well, the case has already been filed at the Jharkhand High Court and the hearing will take place on 1st February 24 at 10:30 a.m.
What Were The Acquisitions On Which Hemant Soren Was Arrested?
ED made a pile of files on various corruption charges against Hemant Soren, in which the primary one was the selling of Army land illegally. High Voltage Drama After The Arrest Of Former CM of Jharkhand- Hemant Soren
Once ED brought Hemant Soren into their office, the vehicles of several legislatures arrived at ED’s office gate to meet their leader. In the same line, one more vehicle was spotted entering ED’s office, and in this car, Kalpana Soren (wife of Hemant Soren) was sitting and she was going to meet her husband.
Later on, in the support of Hemant Soren, the leading party of Jharkhand, i.e., JMM called for Jharkhand Bandh on 1st February 24 and in this most of the government institutions and schools will be closed except the medical and essential services.
What’s Next?
Now, all eyes are on the court whether the apex judicial body of a state will give the remand of Hemant Soren to ED for 7 days or 15 days and the same will depend on the evidence produced by the ED in the Jharkhand High Court.
However, the political situation in Jharkhand is stable, as the leading party, i.e., JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) is claiming that they have the majority and they can form the Government with their allies. It is important to note that, in the last election, i.e., in 2019, JMM won 29 seats, BJP won 25 seats, Congress won 17 seats, AJSU got 3 seats in their bags, and some regional parties got single-digit seats. So, there is a high possibility that JMM and Congress will form the Government under the leadership of Champai Soren.
