The full name of APJ Abdul Kalam is Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, born on 15 Oct 1931 till 27 July 2015 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. So he was alive till 84 years of age, but unfortunately, he died in Shillong. By occupation, he was an Indian aerospace scientist and statesman. He was also elected as the 11th president of India from 2002 to 2007.
For the next four years till 2011, he worked as a scientist and science administrator at two organizations, first the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and second is the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He was also a member of India’s Civilian Space Programme and Military, and also famous for the name “Missile Man of India” because he gave time and worked for the development of ballistic missiles and launch vehicle technology.

Kalam sir is the youngest of 4 brothers and 1 sister; his family was wealthy because of their business as Marakayar traders and also land owners. They were also a grocery trader in Sri Lanka between the mainland and the islands.
Now, after the opening of Pamban Bridge on the mainland, the business failed, and their family faced a loss in 1914; all their properties except their own home were just destroyed.
After Kalam’s birth, his family was on a great poverty line, so to manage their family and get extra income, he had to sell newspapers to sustain their family’s needs.
Education Of APJ Abdul Kalam
Abdul Kalam, in his school days, was an average student, yet he was famous for his handwork and dedication to his studies as lots of desires were hidden inside. He loved to study and thus spent his time-solving math problems.
After schooling at Schwartz Higher Secondary School, Ramanathanpuram went on to pursue higher studies at St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirapalli, and graduated from there.
Career of APJ Abdul Kalam
After completing graduating from the Madras Institute of Technology in 1960, he joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) after he became a member of the Defense Research and Development Service (DRDS) as a President. In this job when he felt uncomfortable working, he joined Incospar under Vikram Sarabhai, a space scientist.
After this, Kalam was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the position of project director of India’s First Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III) in 1980. Then, in 1965, he started working on an expandable rocket project at DRDO. Now in 1969, he received government approval to expand the program and hire more engineers.

Then, from 1963 to 1964, he visited different centers of NASA, and between the 1970s and 1990s, he put an effort into creating a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and SLV-III, where both projects were successful. Now, Raja Ramanna has invited Kalam to witness the country’s first nuclear test, “Smiling Buddha,” even though he had not taken part in it.
Again, in the 1970s, Kalam worked on two more projects, Project Devil and Project Valiant, for the successful SLV program to develop ballistic missiles. After this Union Cabinet, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi allotted secret funds for these aerospace projects even after the disapproval. In the 1980s, due to his research and educational leadership, he gained respect in the hearts of all Indian people.
Contributions Done By APJ Abdul Kalam
Indian Missile Man- Dr. Kalam developed two missiles, Agni and Prithvi, based on the SLV program.
India’s first Hovercraft- Kalam and his team Nandi developed India’s first Hovercraft, and it is the symbol of innovation and strength.
India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle- As per the project director of ISRO, Dr Kalam played a main role in the development and successful launch of the Rohini Satellite SLV-III in 1980.
INCOSPAR Committee- Dr Kalam was a member of a committee that established TERLS, which is the launch station of India’s Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launch.
Chief Scientific Advisor- Dr Kalam became the principal scientific advisor to the Government of India before serving as a Scientific Adviser to the Defense Minister.
